Cruelty-free FOTD from the Drugstore!

flatlay

So, I’ve made several trips to the drugstore lately, in large to part to pick up some of my cruelty-free staples.  Plus, having done cruelty-free at the drugstore posts in the past, I figured it was high time that I posted a look actually featuring the many great cruelty-free products that I <3.  For this look, I decided to go for products that are not only available at drugstore prices, but that can actually be found at brick-and-mortar stores!

Eyes

I always start with my eyes when applying makeup, as I’d rather be able to just wipe off any fallout than have to worry about it messing up my base.

I primed my lid with my Milani Eyeshadow Primer, which stands up to the best of the high-end ones I’ve tried, and my undereye with the ELF Hydrating Under Eye  Primer.  Then, it was an ELF sort of day for my shadow look.  I started out with a bit of a smokey eye, using the Saturday Sunsets Clay Eyeshadow Palette and then, feeling I wanted a bit of extra glow, added some goldy-bronze from the Prism Eyeshadow Palette in Naked to the center of my lid and my lower lash line.

All of the remaining eye products I used are absolute favorites in my collection.  My Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara, Physician’s Formula Custom Eye Enhancing Extreme Shimmer Eyeliner (the brown in the Nude set), and my Pacifica Transcendent Concentrated Correcting Concealer (light).

Face

A little story for those who lack in faith in drugstore bases.  I recently, in colossally stupid fashion, decided to try an AHA mask.  What’s so stupid about that, you ask?  I tried it an hour before I had to leave for work.  My face was a shade of what can only be described as tomato red.  The coverage my ELF BB Cream SPF 20 provided was heroic.  While it didn’t completely cover my post-spot hyperpigmentation, it did a stellar job of evening out my skin tone to a more human shade.

I followed up the light dusting of the beige-ish shade in the ELF Illuminating Palette and then the lightest touch of Milani American Beauty Rose Blush.

Lips

My lip look was a combo of an old fave and new fave.  Kind of reminds me of that old Girl Scouts song… I started out with my Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm in Natural Rose and then topped it off with Wet n’ Wild’s MegaLast Liquid Lip Color in Iris I was Rich.  What I love about this lipstick?   1) the shade, 2) the fact that it’s a long-lasting lip product that keeps a bit of shine.  What I am less enthusiastic about is how it feels on the lips.  Their website describes the formula as using “ElastiSilk™ technology”, and I feel that’s fairly accurate.  Some over-30 readers may remember Shrinky Dinks, it kind of feels like that, but on your lips.  However, I’ve found that applying a bit of balm underneath (hence, my Pixi fave) mitigates that sensation without interfering with either the look or the staying power of the liquid lipstick.

  1. You used so many of my favorite products in this look! Honestly, I don’t even feel the need to buy high-end products because I’ve found so many CF drugstore gems that blow me away, including that Milani primer! I loved the Jordana mascara except for the fact that it was really difficult to remove. And I’ve heard great things about that Pacifica concealer – it’s next on my list when I run out of my current one! Beautiful FOTD!
