Cruelty-free Friday Ode to the Fabulous Miss Phryne Fisher!

From the minute I started watching, I’ve been fairly obsessed with Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, and since about minute 2, I’ve been dying to do a cruelty-free Miss Fisher look.   I’ve been biding my time, and my moment has come.  When better than the week Miss Fisher’s Season 3 finally hits Netflix in the U.S.A.?

As I’ve mentioned, if I could go back in time to any decade, it would be the 1920s. Women were really coming into their own, plus, there was indoor plumbing.  And Miss Phryne Fisher is my favorite flapper, bar none.  Smart.  Sassy.  And just the right amount of mischievous!

From my copious study of the show and related still shots, I’ve gleaned that Miss Fisher’s signature look could well be summarized as matte chic.  The skin matte, but fresh, a smoky wedge of black shadow in the outer corner of the eye, and a smashing red lip.  The fortunate Miss Fisher (aka the lovely Miss Essie Davis), has incredible cheek bones that are played up with a hint of contour and a pop of peachy blush. For a peek at the photo I used as my inspiration check out the title photo on the Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries Costume Exhibition website.

For the base, I used Hourglass Immaculate with a bit of Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Ethereal Light.  Too add that touch of contoured color, I used my ELF Studio Contour Palette and topped the cheeks with a light combo of ELF’s Studio Blush in Peachy Keen and Makeup Geek’s Blush in Bliss.

The base for the eye is just to neutralize any discoloration and brighten a bit, so choose colors that match you skin tone, or one shade brighter.  All the shadows I used come from my It Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Celebration Palette.  I swept a mix of Champagne and Snow Angel all over the lid, from lash line to brow bone, and then added a mix of Cozy and Gingerbread into the crease for a bit of definition.

Then, I pulled out my handy Sigma P64 precision angled brush, it was the perfect shape for stamping on that little wedge of Coal shadow, then I used a fluffy brush to blend it out.  No harsh lines for Miss Fisher.

I finished off the look with some of my Lily Lolo mascara and the Sigma Inner Rim Brightener in Polished for the lower water line.

Last but not least, that lip!

I couldn’t help but go for Classic Red, a Satin Luxe Lip Color by Sonia Kashuk.
